Spring Overnight

May 18, 19 2024

The 2023 overnight was a great success. 3 people camped at Independence while 8 camped at Willamette Mission SP. It got pretty hot during the rides but it was perfect for camping. Special thanks to Jean for a fantastic lunch in Salem.

The Spring Overnight is a great way to test out your gear and get prepared for the touring season. We ride to our destination on Saturday, camp for the night, and ride home on Sunday. You carry all your own gear as there is no SAG support.

This year we will over both a long and sort option. The long ride is to Willamette Mission State Park north of Keizer. It is about 55 miles each way and follows the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway north, and a custom route south. We also call this our Tour d' Ferries as we take the Buena Vista Ferry on the way up, and the Wheatland Ferry on the way back. The return ride also goes through Salem's riverfront park and Minto-Brown Island park.

The shorter route is to Independence Riverview Park. It is about 25 miles each way. Both locations have hiker/biker camping providing room for tents, water, and outhouses. The campsite in Independence is a short walk to stores and restaurants.
